ISBN assignment

ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is an international standard book number. It is a unique number that can be used to determine in which country and by which publisher the given book was published. You can find additional information about the number assignment system on the website of the National Library of the Czech Republic.

The ISBN allocation and management agenda falls under the Research Library, based on the “Request for ISBN allocation” (Annex No. 2 to the Rector’s Directive No. 8/2012 Editing and Publishing Activities of the J. E. Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem).

The Research Library of the J. E. Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem assigns ISBNs only to publications published at the university.

The library provides:

  • ISBN block management,
  • correctness of assigned ISBN numbers,
  • informs the National ISBN Agency about the assigned ISBN numbers,
  • keeps records of assigned ISBN numbers.
